Tenerife: Beyond the Beaches

Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and one of the most popular for tourists. Approximately five million holidaymakers travel to the island every year, with the majority of these being from the UK. There are many reasons why so many Brits choose Tenerife for their holidays, such as the wide variety of activities on offer, and upbeat atmosphere that appeals to families, clubbers, couples and older holidaymakers alike. So, following on from our recent post on Tenerife’s stunning beaches, here is a quick guide to Tenerife’s shopping, nightlife and activites.

Shopping

The capital of Tenerife, Santa Cruz, is located 37 miles from Reina Sofia airport, and can be easily reached with a reliable and friendly Holiday Taxis transfer from your accommodation. Santa Cruz is the ultimate shopping location for bargain hunters on holiday in Tenerife. Choose the Calle Castillo for high street bargains, with lower taxes than back in the UK. The enormous Meridiano shopping centre features a multi-screen cinema and Carrefour hypermarket, in addition to over one hundred shops and restaurants.

Whilst Santa Cruz offers the best shopping in Tenerife, Los Cristianos is also an excellent shopping destination. With department stores for the label junkies, and tiny boutiques and shops for more individual purchases, Los Cristianos is a more relaxed shopping environment than that offered by the island’s capital.

Nightlife

Tenerife is renowned for its outstanding nightlife, the majority of which revolves around the Playa de Las Americas area. The Patch is the area to choose for cabaret entertainment, karaoke and family-friendly fun. There are also restaurants, as well as pubs and clubs for adult holidaymakers.

Veronica’s Strip is clubbing territory, with neon, crowds, drinking and loud music everywhere you go.  Situated on the seafront, Veronica’s really comes to life as the night goes on, and generally attracts a younger crowd than The Patch. Starco’s, located about three hundred metres inland, is home to Tramp’s, Tenerife’s most popular nightclub, which reaches its ultimate peak of popularity at around three am.

There is usually no entrance fee for the clubs on Veronica’s Strip, and a relaxed dress code that only really forbids bare chests. Bars in the Playa de Las Americas area tend to stay open until 4 am, whilst clubs generally close at 6 am.

Attractions

If you like to get out and do stuff on your holidays, then Tenerife will not disappoint.

For families seeking a day away from the beach, there is Siam Park. Siam Park is a large water park situated within walking distance of the Playa de Las Americas. If travelling from further afield, the park offers ample parking, and is a guaranteed fun-packed day out for all the family. There is also Aqualand, another fantastic water park close to Las Americas.

Alternatively, there are frequent Freebird Whale and Dolphin cruises available out of Las Americas marina. These cruises offer an excellent opportunity to spot whales and dolphins, whilst enjoying a day out in the sea air.

There is so much to see and do on a holiday in Tenerife that you will find yourself spoiled for choice from the moment you arrive! And if you’re eager to get cracking with enjoying all that the beautiful island of Tenerife has to offer, make sure you pre-book your airport transfer with award-winning transfer company, Holiday Taxis.
